Protection.
I know there’s many who are feeling a rather dire need for this right now.

This is supposed to be an essay or somesuch to tell you exactly how to do that- what signs to draw when and where, what to put in an amulet or use for a talisman, what herbs and stones to stick in a jar or twist with some particular twine, what right words of power to speak in what place and at what time.

After 37 years of doing this sort of thing, I can’t tell you that. The way I go about things is weird and far more straightforward than most. It’s magick because I Did it and Meant it to be magick and so it does what I wanted it to do. This took a lot of practice. So the things I’m going to tell you is what I use the magick For as far as protection goes- the angles from which I wield it, what I’m trying to Do, how I Think about it. I may throw down a specific trick or two I’ve found particularly handy, but mostly However yours works, whatever your paradigm and symbol set, whatever way feels right for you to lay these things down, should work just fine- and I mean that: as you consider these concepts- however way occurs to You, whatever symbol set or method that springs to mind to Do these things, is as likely to work as anything anybody ever considered “official”. That’s one thing I Do know. Take any advise that inspires you.

We’ll start with your space, wherever is currently Home. You’ll need wards. There’s no specific definition of these things- but basically it’s magick to keep unwanted things or that which intends you harm from entering, or even finding it in the first place.

I start on the inside- sealing windows and doors with a licked finger, a particular rune, and a breath. The point of it is keeping that which needs to stay out Out- any breach in those walls (or roof) put some attention there, to keep the bad Out. I also have various artsy things, made to Protect and defend- I use thorns, and broken mirror, and little figures I’ve believed real, that I stick about the place.
What you do doesn’t really matter as much as That you did it, and what you Meant by it- the line you drew, the thing you made and put there Why you did it and that you Meant it is what matters.
Keep bad Out, turn away unwanted attention. (Unwanted is important, if you still want deliveries to show up)

Next your land- however small. Mark the boundaries, and the corners. Doesn’t have to be big. Bury some little stones or marbles or jars filled with your whatevers, hell you can even go Pee there if you mean it hard enough (though physical objects tend to hold the ward longer, and if it’s a place with a lot of “not yours” comings and goings it’s hard to claim as just Yours but you can kinda get around that on the other side of the fence as it relates to You ) Anyway- you want a boundary Also with that notion of protection, defense, and turning away unwanted attention.

You can weave that web as tight as you like, all over your land and surrounding environs. You want anybody who might do you harm clueless where you are, can’t find your house, and having an annoying murphey’s law kinda day.
“Don’t look here”, “Ain’t nothin down there”, and “Hey look over There” sort of projected thoughts are your friend here. (As are “Did I forget something” and “I need to poop”)
Mostly, you don’t ever want anything thats a Problem even making it to your door.

Car- same thing, “Nothing in particular here, just a car” (hard “Don’t See Me” is a bad idea, with a car, as a permanent thing. Other traffic exists. Keep that light unless you are actively within sight of a Problem, at which point you hold that as a strong shield deflecting Particular Attention.. I’m sure you get it.)

I also do doors and windows and talisman hard wards and protection to deter any nefarious interest in my vehicle.

Now as far as your Person- It is by far best to not be noticed by those who might become a Problem. Glamour and suggestion. Be it a talisman, what you wear, how you hold your mind when going about your business- you want to escape notice.
And if you Do get noticed, you want to seem either harmless or not worth the effort.
Whatever “psychic shielding” technique you know can be adapted to project these things instead of the usual “psychic defense”. The “Jedi Mind Trick” do not be the droids they are looking for in that moment.

Also, you need to be proactive- you need magick or spirit allies to boost your awareness, and Pay Attention to “The Force” your “Spideysense” “Vibes” or whatever.
The Best defense to not winding up the target of a Problem- is not being there when the Problem shows up. There is a reason I was never there when the party got busted, or shit went sideways, or when the riot broke out. I listen to that bit of me that Knows Shit, and I gtfo before there’s a problem. This is your absolute Best defense. Even if you don’t gtfo quite in time, you will not be caught by surprise and can respond more rapidly and appropriately if shit goes wrong.

Protective talismans, I know many ways. My favorite is you make a wee little scroll, whether written spell or sigil, wrap it around a little stick and bind it there with wire, and soak the thing in super glue (don’t glue yourself to it. It sucks) that leaves you with an extremely durable waterproof talisman you can stick on a necklace or carry in a pocket or purse.
You can also make a ring this way (look up making paper beads on youtube, it’ll make sense.

Also, for deflecting attention (or magickal attack)- you know that steel reinforced epoxy putty? JB weld, or Car Go, or whatever at any autoparts or car store? Well you get some of that, and either a little craft mirror, or my favorite, shards of broken mirror. You can scribe things (backwards) into the back of that mirror with a dremel- but this isn’t necessary. Anyway, you make a small loop of wire with a twisty tail that will be a bail. You stick that mirror facedown on a clear piece of tape, you mix up that epoxy putty and squish it down on the backside of that mirror shard, and stick that bail in where it makes sense. (You can poke in a chunk of quartz if you want it to be instant orgonite) once it’s pretty well set you can trim off the excess outsides with a knife (the point of the epoxy is to cover the sharp bits of mirror shard, so leave a good lip)
then when it’s fully dry, sand it a bit and you’ve got a mirror shard talisman which works and makes a good intentional focus.
Also if you favor little medicine bag type things- the cut off fingers of worn out gloves are your friend.

Though most protection is in the “Prevent this from happening by whatever uncanny means” and you should hold as much of that on your person or in your soul as possible-
You’ll want to buff up your “armor stat” or “toughness” too. That sounds ridiculous, yeah I know.
Just do or make a thing for it. We can bump up our natural resistance to harm a bit.
We can augment almost Any of our natural abilities with magick, some. Just as you apply your Will to a spell you are casting you can apply it to anything you are physically Doing as well. May take some time to get the trick of it. But it works, a bit. And sometimes that bit matters. Martial artists know this, though they don’t think of it as magick. Focused will bound to action. And I’m not just talking about fighting here. Like, you gotta run? You gotta hide? You gotta make it over an improbable fence? You gotta see in the dark? You gotta not Die? Magick, right here, right now, Use it for what you are Doing.

There’s also proactive negatives you can apply to Problems. Hex them is what I’m saying. Hex the shit out of them. Twist their luck. Cause them a bad day. They are less likely to be able to bring you harm. You can do this actively, or seeded around your environment in terms of various wards or talismans laid (physical or scribed or just thrown).
Distract, dismay, protect, defend. Hard to see, hard to find, hard to think about, hard to harm, more trouble than it’s worth, Not There When It Comes Knocking.

You can apply these notions more broadly in your Community, in Spaces people congregate, to confer whatever good you can to to Others, and Hinder those that would do them harm.
